For many travellers, a camel safari is the most memorable way to enter the Thar Desert. Sitting on a camel and moving slowly through the dunes gives you time to notice the landscape rather than rushing through it. The colours change throughout the day, the desert becomes quieter as you move away from the city, and sunset brings a completely different character to the dunes.
Our camel safari experiences are designed for different kinds of travellers. If you only have an afternoon, you can join a half-day camel safari and experience the desert around sunset. If you have more time, our overnight and multi-day safaris allow you to go deeper into the desert and experience more of its landscape and local life.
EXPERIENCE THE THAR BEYOND THE TOURIST TRAIL
Not every traveller wants to spend their desert experience surrounded by other tourist groups. Our non-touristic safaris take you away from the usual tourist areas and into quieter parts of the Thar where there are no other tourist groups around you.
You travel with your own group, ride through the open desert, stop to watch the sunset and spend time around the campfire. On overnight experiences, you can sleep on a traditional cot beneath the open sky and wake up to the quiet of the desert.
For us, non-touristic does not mean pretending that the Thar has no tourism. It simply means finding places where you can experience the desert without other tourist groups around you.
DESERT VILLAGES AND LOCAL LIFE
The Thar Desert is home to many communities whose lives are closely connected to the land, animals and changing seasons. A desert safari can therefore be about more than dunes.
Depending on your itinerary, you may visit Kuldhara, pass through or explore desert villages, see aspects of local village life and spend time away from the main tourist areas of Jaisalmer.
These moments give you a different perspective of Rajasthan — one that goes beyond the forts, markets and sightseeing spots of Jaisalmer.
SUNSET, CAMPFIRES AND DESERT NIGHTS
Sunset is one of the highlights of a Jaisalmer desert safari, but the experience does not end when the sun disappears.
On our overnight safaris, the evening continues around an open fire. We prepare simple vegetarian food, share tea and stories, and give you time to enjoy the desert without having to rush anywhere.
When the fire goes quiet and the lights disappear, the desert sky becomes part of the experience. Depending on the weather and season, you can spend the night outside on a cot beneath the stars or choose a Swiss tent with an attached bathroom as part of our desert camp experience.
Jaisalmer’s desert can be surprisingly quiet at night. That silence is one of the things many travellers remember long after the camel ride is over.
DIFFERENT WAYS TO EXPERIENCE THE DESERT
There is no single “best” Jaisalmer desert safari for everyone.
Some travellers have only a few hours and want a camel ride and sunset. Some want a non-touristic overnight camel safari and the chance to sleep under the stars. Others prefer the comfort of a desert camp, with Rajasthani folk music, dance, dinner and a private Swiss tent.
We offer different safari durations and styles so you can choose according to your time, your group and the kind of experience you want from the Thar Desert.
If you have something specific in mind, tell us what you are looking for and we will see how we can make it work.
